Get Unstuck in 5 Sessions
A structured approach to help you launch your young adult while keeping your relationship intact
You’ve read the book. You understand the framework. But you’re not sure how to apply it to your situation. Your young adult is different. Your family dynamics are different. What worked for someone else might not work for you. That’s where coaching comes in.
How It Works
Session 1:
The Assessment
We meet — just you and me. You tell me what’s happening, what you’ve tried, and where you’re stuck. I listen, ask questions, and start mapping out what’s keeping both of you in this pattern.
Session 2:
The Young Adult Interview
With your young adult’s permission, I interview them separately. I use a structured 5-year planning process to understand their vision for their future — where they want to be living, what they want to be doing, what support they want from you.
Session 3:
Creating the Plan
We bring everyone together. Your young adult presents their 5-year plan. You respond with what you’re willing to support, what you’re not willing to do (boundaries), and expectations if they’re living at home. We create a written agreement everyone commits to.
Sessions 4 & 5:
Check-ins & Adjustments
We meet 2 weeks later, then monthly. We track progress, troubleshoot what’s not working, and adjust the plan as needed. Most families see momentum within the first month. The young adult starts taking action. Parents feel less anxious. The relationship improves.
What You Get:
- A 5-year plan your young adult actually helped create
- Clear boundaries and expectations in writing
- A structured check-in process
- Tools to support without rescuing or controlling
- A roadmap for what to do if they get stuck again
This Works Best If:
- Your young adult is willing to meet with Dr. Jack for a one time interview.
- You’re ready to make changes in how you interact with your young adult.
- You want a time-limited, structured process
- You’re willing to set boundaries and follow through

Frequently Asked Questions
We can still work together, but the process is more effective when I can talk to them directly. Often, framing it as “a psychologist or parent coach who needs to learn more about the young adult’s plans and needs in order to help the parents” works well. The parents make it clear that the interview is to help the parent coach and the parents understand how they can be more helpful to the young adult.
It’s helpful but not required. If you’re co-parenting separately (divorced, separated), we can work with whoever is most involved in the young adult’s daily life.
For most families, 5 sessions is enough to create the plan and get momentum going. If you need additional support after that, individual follow-up sessions are available at $200 each. But the goal is to give you the tools to continue on your own.
Clinically (in Minnesota), I can diagnose, treat mental health issues, and work with insurance. As a coach (outside Minnesota), I provide education and guidance on applying the concepts and tools from The Parent’s Launch Code.
Yes. The process works whether they’re in your basement, across town, or across the country. All sessions are virtual, so geography isn’t an issue.
A session can last up to 50 minutes.
