I’m a big believer that professionals don’t have all the answers, and we can learn much by asking parents about their experience. In March and April of 2026, parents were asked about their experience with young adults. This is the third such survey I have done in the last ten years. Here are some of the highlights:
- Most of the parents are boomers born 1946-1965.
- Parents of male young adults with launch challenges outnumber parents of female young adults 2:1.
- Social media interferes with progress toward adulthood.
- A majority of parents believe they are responsible for their young adult’s success in life.
- The three biggest challenges parents have faced with their young adult:
- Relationship- estrangement, communication
- Independence
- Identity and Life Direction
